Registered 15 years agoBit of a long shot this but...
I can't get this installed on my 64bit Vista pc.
It is a second hand copy.
when the install bar completes - I get this message.
error 1402. could not open key:
UNKNOWNcompnentsDA42BC89BF25F5BD0AF18C3B9B1A1EE8F42D07117B24FC04AAB13659EC653245. Verify that you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel.
then
error: - 1603 fatal error during installation
consult windows installer help (Msi.chm) or MSDN for more information.
I have had a search and tried various things including using windows install clean up, to get rid of the old files and using the start up menu to shut down unnecessary programs in the background. Tried running the start up as an administrator. But if I'm honest, I don't really know what I am doing. Just wondered if anyone else had any better ideas. (apart from playing it on 360 or playing something else!) - Dirtbox 25 Dec 2009 16:52:32 91,214 posts

Registered 15 years agoThat doesn't work - unless I am trying the wrong bit - have tried both the autostart and the set up.exe a few times now. - heyyo 25 Dec 2009 17:33:58 14,356 posts

Registered 14 years agoThis reminds me of a christmas day about 10 years ago. My parents bought me Theme Park World, the box screenshots looked amazing! The chance to ride the coasters I built in first-person view etc etc
The game just would not fucking install and my 10 year old brain just didn't know how to fix it, my parents didn't even know how to turn the PC on so they were no help. After 8 hours of trying I refused to sleep because I was angry and kept trying - in the early hours of the morning I burst into tears. Horrible. 2 months later I got a N64 and haven't got back into PC gaming since. - Dirtbox 25 Dec 2009 17:52:07 91,214 posts

Registered 15 years agoThanks for your help DB.
The game seems to have installed now and I have got my MS office functionality back after a system restore.
On starting the game up though I am getting another message.
C:Program Files(x86)Microsoft GamesGears of WarBinarieswargame-g4wlive.exe: You cannot run the game with modified executable code. Please reinstall the game.
Any ideas now? The bastard thing takes about 40 minutes to install each time as well. - Dirtbox 26 Dec 2009 02:09:44 91,214 posts

Registered 15 years agoThanks DB. I found those last night whilst looking into the problem myself. Apparently the game won't start up unless you trick the pc into thinking that the date is before january 2009. This buggers up the gfwl system or something like that!
Still - managed to shoot some locust in the face last night, so - making progress!
